How Eviny Termo implemented UtilityCloud in just 3 months and launched new products in hours, not weeks

Eviny Termo, one of Norway’s largest district heating providers, successfully went live with UtilityCloud in just three months, transforming its customer management and billing operations. By replacing legacy processes with a modern, API-first platform, the company increased automation, improved operational visibility, and reduced the time required to launch new products from weeks to hours.

Eviny Termo is the third-largest district heating provider in Norway, delivering approximately 350 GWh of district heating annually across the Bergen and Førde regions. The company supplies renewable heating to residential buildings, offices, schools, hospitals, and public infrastructure, largely based on renewable and recovered energy sources.

As part of a broader modernization journey, Eviny Termo sought more scalable and flexible systems to support customer management, billing, and operational integration. The company was looking for a modern platform with modular architecture, open APIs capable of efficiently exchanging information with surrounding systems, and intuitive functionality that would enable greater self-service and operational efficiency.

Approach:

Eviny conducted a thorough RFP process and selected UtilityCloud from a range of potential providers. UtilityCloud was chosen not only for its functional capabilities, but even more so for Eviny’s confidence in UtilityCloud’s commitment to supporting district heating requirements and acting as a strong long-term partner — proactively helping recommend improvements to both operations and supporting systems.

After evaluating multiple alternatives, we selected UtilityCloud as the best provider for district heating customer management and billing. Beyond modern technology and open APIs, we wanted a partner committed to understanding district heating and helping us improve how we work and operate going forward.

The implementation project was carried out efficiently, with the system fully operational within just three months and the first invoicing completed only four months after project start. The project included system configuration tailored to district heating requirements, integration between UtilityCloud and the Meter Data Management (MDM) system, product setup, testing, and migration. The intensive project was completed according to plan and timeline, and during the first invoicing cycle, all invoices were successfully issued within the very first week.

UtilityCloud is easy and intuitive to use, and has given us much better visibility into bookkeeping, settlement, and accounts receivables. Our finance team can now access information, reports, and make corrections directly in the system, without relying on custom report requests or specialist users.

Training was provided to customer service teams covering customer management, product configuration, and invoicing processes. Importantly, the system supports a high degree of automation by default, with settlement, invoice generation, and invoice distribution handled automatically, while manual intervention is only required when pre-configured validation or control rules are triggered. In addition, finance and accounting teams were trained in accounts receivable management, monitoring and validation of accounting transactions, reconciliation processes, reporting, and follow-up of postings transferred from UtilityCloud to the ERP and accounting systems.

Results:

The implementation of UtilityCloud has provided Eviny Termo with a modern, flexible, and user-friendly platform supporting its core customer management and billing operations for district heating. Key outcomes include:

  • Modern and intuitive platform supporting efficient customer management and billing processes for district heating operations
  • Modular architecture enabling live integration with surrounding systems, increasing automation, reducing manual work, and lowering operational costs
  • Full API access providing direct access to operational data and reporting, improving transparency, insights, and decision-making capabilities
  • Effective onboarding and migration delivered according to plan and timeline, with the system live in 3 months, first invoicing completed just 4 months after project start, and all invoices issued within 1 working week
  • Greater self-service capabilities enabling Eviny Termo to build and configure new products internally, reducing dependency on consultants and significantly shortening time-to-market for new offerings by up to several weeks

“With UtilityCloud, we can configure and launch new products much faster and with far greater independence than before. The platform gives us the flexibility to innovate, adapt, and support future growth without relying heavily on external consultants.”
