About UtilityCloud
UtilityCloud is a market leading billing & customer information system that helps energy retailers cut costs while staying competitive in a deregulated market. With our fully-automated platform, our customers can cut operational costs by up to 70% and grow 15 times faster than the industry average.
As the energy sector undergoes rapid transformation, UtilityCloud is positioned at the center of this shift – enabling utilities to modernize faster, operate smarter, and deliver better outcomes to their customers.
This is a unique opportunity to join a high-growth company early in your career and learn how leading utilities realize value from next-generation software.
The Role
We are looking for a Support Specialist to join our support and development team on a part-time basis alongside your studies. The role is designed for Computer Science students (BSc, ideally in their final year) who want to build strong technical and product understanding by working close to real customer problems.
You will be the first line of contact for incoming requests: receiving, triaging, investigating, and resolving them, and making sure our customers get fast, clear, and reliable answers. As your product knowledge grows, you will take on an increasing share of development work – fixing bugs, improving tooling and documentation, and contributing to product improvements that remove the root causes of support tickets.
This is a deliberate entry point into a full development role at UtilityCloud. Several of our best developers started exactly here. Support is the fastest way to learn our product end-to-end and to genuinely understand our users.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Support (approx. 80–90% initially)
- Act as first line of contact for incoming requests – clarify, triage, and prioritize based on customer impact and urgency
- Investigate and resolve support tickets, using logs, database queries, and APIs
- Escalate to 2nd line development team when needed, while retaining ownership of the case until it is resolved and closed with the customer
- Communicate clearly and proactively with customers on status, ownership, and expected resolution
- Create and maintain support documentation and knowledge base articles that enable customers to self-serve
- Identify recurring issues and patterns, and feed them back to Product and Engineering
Development & Product Improvement (approx. 10–20% initially, increasing over time)
- Fix bugs and implement small improvements based on support insights
- Contribute to product improvements and automation that reduce support volume
- Collaborate with senior developers on prioritized development tasks
Career Path
The role is structured to grow with you:
- Start with hands-on support, learning the product, the Nordic energy domain, and our customers
- Progress into deeper technical troubleshooting and independent bug fixing
- Transition into a Junior Developer role with increasing development responsibility and more complex tasks
You will be mentored closely by our senior developers and work directly with the people who build the product. For strong performers, there is a clear path to a full-time position after graduation.
What We Are Looking For
- Ongoing BSc in Computer Science or a similar technical field, ideally in your final year
- Fundamental programming skills (e.g. JavaScript, Python, or similar)
- Strong problem-solving ability and curiosity – you want to know why something breaks, not just how to make it go away
- Interest in understanding how software works end-to-end
- Good communication skills, written and verbal, and comfort in direct customer dialogue
- Ability to take ownership and follow through on tasks with limited supervision
- Familiarity with APIs, databases, and debugging is an advantage
- Prior experience from support, customer-facing roles, or similar is a plus
- Fluent in Norwegian – a requirement, as customer dialogue is in Norwegian – and good working English
- Able to work a minimum of two days per week alongside your studies, physically present at our Oslo or Halden office
What We Offer
- Real responsibility and direct customer contact from day one
- Close mentoring from senior developers and short distance to leadership
- A modern, AI-enabled development environment
- Deep insight into a complex and business-critical domain – energy retail, billing, and market integrations
- A clear and proven path from support into a developer career
